This is pure poppycock. The chlorine atoms involved here are not in the elemental state. Nor are they highly oxidized, as seen in disinfectants. Instead, they are in the fully stabilized electron configuration of fully reacted chlorine. There is no evidence that the chlorine atoms are removed from the sucralose molecule, but if they were, they would dissociate as the chloride structure......the very same chloride ion that is found in table salt. Your body is perfectly set up to handle chloride.

With reference to bladder irritation, I saw some references that absorbed sucralose is excreted in urine. That would indicate that human enzymes are incapable of metabolizing the molecule for its energy content. However, bacterial enzymes are capable of doing so (apparently), so having sugar in the urine may well promote a bacterial bloom in the bladder, leading to urinary tract inflammation.

Unless someone can show that there are organochlorine metabolites of sucralose in the human body, or that the altered sucrose molecule interacts with e.g. receptors or enzymes, then I can't support the arguments raised in this particular article. I'm not supporting the use of sucralose. I avoid all artificial food additives to the extent that I can. I'm just trying to keep pseudo-science to a minimum.
