Hi Jost,
I've just started taking paralegal classes, I expect to finish my certificate next summer. Right now I am trying to get a job as a legal assistant to get my very sore foot in the door.
I took my current hell job because I'd been unemployed for nine months and got placed there by a temp agency. I went permanent because the temp agency said they had no new placements and I needed money. The catch is it was a $3 an hour cut in pay because *I get benefits.* Which other than paid vacations and holidays I don't benefit from- my insurance is through my husband.
I am good at research and writing and paralegal work is something that I know I would be good at. I also know that no one is going to hire a paralegal who has no law firm or legal department experience. Entry level is okay.
The law firm that just burned me knew that I didn't need benefits and was willing to work for a low salary. Actually it would have paid more than what I currently make.
Career failure is not new to me. It's very old, I keep getting trapped in jobs that I absolutely hate. I've tried headhunters. I've tried career counselors and always been told I interview well. One headhunter said it's a real feather in my cap that the place she sent me to liked me so much as they were very picky. Note, they didn't like me enough to hire me and everytime I call the headhunter she has nothing for me.
I need a job that uses my brain. Any advice is welcome. You can babblemail me if you want to.
