Yes definitely they can. If you suspect you have allergies then get a simple blood test done at the doctor, it's not 100% but it's a start. The DIY allergy testing kits are a waste of money and time imho. Also take a look at a 'stone age' diet. It's controversial with some people but the underlying reasoning for going on this diet is respectable.
The human body hasn't evolved fast enough to cope with the modern life style. The old adage "You are what you eat" is as relevant as ever.
