This is very true. Its a myth you can get all the nutrients you need from a 'balanced diet'. You need supplementation as well. Plus, evolutionarily speaking, it wasn't *that* long ago our diets changed from hunter-gather diets to more agriculturally based ones. Our intake of vitamin C, for example, would have been much much higher back then.
And there's a world of difference between getting enough nutrients to stop disease and getting enough for optimum health to prevent cancer etc.
