> TinMan, I am interested in your posting on DHEA...everything I read about it states that large amounts i.e. 50mg is dangerous and causes many side effects. The stated amount recommended is 5 mg. per day. I am an advocate of "whatever works" so I'm interested in knowing how you arrived at the 50 mg. figure...do you go by weight or tolerance? I am taking Effexor XR 75 mg. every morning down from 150 mg. a day. Most days are good...I continue to clinch and grit my teeth which I assume will always be a nuisance. Other than that I feel pretty good most days...

I did some more research on DHEA after reading your post. Are you, by chance, in the U.K.? Apparently, DHEA is hard to find in Europe BUT 5 mg. tablets are prescribed to women going through menopause.

The two studies that I read were done with women and men using 50-100 mgs. of DHEA. The listed benefits were more vitality, obesity control, cancer prevention, plus others.

I went to another website where a Dr. insisted that on 25 mg of DHEA, he had heart palpitations and called higher doses "dangerous". Scrolling down, he had his own, Dr. approved 5 mg. supplements for sale (!!).

It is a precursor to the sex steroid hormones testosterone and estrogen. Our bodies slowly stop producing DHEA as we get older, diminishing up to 90% as we age.

There really was no rhyme or reason for taking 50 mg. Those were the tablets I found at the store. I have taken 25 mg. daily in the past without side effects. And now I know that this is one of those things that "more is not necessarily better".

If you are interested in taking DHEA, consult with your Dr. first. Investigate it to see if it is something you want to add. <<<(This is my disclaimer. No lawsuits, please!! But if you must, I can be served papers in the Land of Oz. And I will send the flying monkeys. Hehehehe...)
