I believe taurine boosts gaba in certain areas of the brain, and actually IS GABA, but I think with a sulfonic acid at the one side instead of a carboxylic acid.. something like that. Glutamine actually is the precursor to GABA, which I find to be extremely sedating and relaxing if taken on an empty stomach. If I have trouble sleeping, I take glutamine and I fall asleep for like a million hours.

GABA itself is available, but doesn't really cross the blood brain barrier unless it is attached to a niacin molecule or something to bring it across the BBB. However, as I understand it, GABA is effective peripherally, meaning you might feel less physical anxiety after using it.

L-theanine has a GABA-ish feel... not a precursor to GABA or anything but it antagonizes glutamate receptors making you feel more relaxed.
