I have a couple of (half educated) thoughts.
First, as people get older their cholesterol levels can increase as their hormone levels drop. It may be the body's attempt to maintain balance as hormones are made from cholesterol. It has been shown that if hormone levels are normalised with bioidentical hormones cholesterol levels will normalise. So you may need to have your hormones checked.
Secondly, about the homocysteine level. I forget why, but B6, preferrably pyridoxal-5-phosphate is part of the treatment when folic acid and TMG are not enough. So what about
Folic acid....800mcg (what's the upper limit here?)with every meal
TMG...........1500mg in the morning
pyridoxal-5-phosphate......the doses safely used to lower homocysteine are quite high, but presumably not so high as to be unsafe.
You're best off looking at the latest protocol for homocysteine reduction at www.lef.org
It's a high dose for a while, avoiding peripheral nerve toxicity.Declan
