Sarah:

No, I'm not taking any traditional meds at the time. I was on 30-40mg Lexapro from June to the beginning of January. I stopped because it just wasn't doing enough for my GAD, panic and OCD. I tried this "energy tapping" technique (a/la Lambrou and Pratt's Instant Emotional Healing) for about 4 weeks, then tried fish oil for a few weeks, now I'm trying 5-HTP alone. For me, I don't think taking 5-HTP with anything would be a problem though, as it seems so weak. I just have not found any natural supplement to do much of anything for me. I think there is a huge placebo effect with many supplements; they don't come close to giving me the same symptom relief as SSRIs--though I do continue to hold out hope and am prejudiced in solving my illness in a manner that does not involve putting inorganic chemicals into my body everyday. As it stands, unfortunately, the pharmaceuticals are the only thing that has worked for me.

Good luck,
Chris

> Hi Chris. Thank you for that information. Are you taking any "traditional" medications, any antidepressants now? Is there any contraindication to taking 5HTP with other AD's? I would think that you probably shouldn't take it with ssri's or other AD's that increase serotonin levels.
