Hi Wildflower,
I have a light therapy lamp from Full Spectrum Solutions. I also just got an Apollo GoLite P1 for travel. So I really like my light therapy, so much so that I don't want to miss even a day.

I've never had any skin reactions or eye reactions. You want to make sure that whatever unit you get has UV filter to avoid harmful light.

Also, I asked my next-door neighbor if the light was an issue, since our bedroom is directly across from their 4-year-old's. They have never noticed it. I use a vinyl shade at the moment on the window. (Sigh, someday we'll have time to decorate the upstairs....)
