I wouldn't give up on the mg taurate just yet. All the kinds of mg I've tried (mg glycinate, malate, sulfate, citrate) have given me diarrhea at times. Breaking it up to 3 or more times a day will definitely help. You might also want to review George Eby's tips about avoiding diarrhea, http://www.coldcure.com/html/dep.html#tips, such as taking probiotics and avoding "milk products, non-soluble fiber, greasy foods or foods high in sugar."

It takes experimentation to see what works. 600 mg is probably reasonable, but you may find you need more or less depending on your symptoms such as the migraines. In my experience, there's really no answer except the one we work out for ourselves.
