Magnesium Taurate, dosage and diarrhea

Posted by doxielover on October 4, 2004, at 12:58:26

I've recently started taking Magnesium Taurate supplements. I've been taking 2-3 at night before bed, and the last few days I've had some diarrhea. According to this article this should not be occurring:

"...as glycine goes up and taurine goes down in the liver, bile production is impaired and intestinal absorption of magnesium becomes greatly impaired, helping to explain why diarrhea resulting from magnesium taurate is essentially non-existant. In some people sensitive to this reaction, magnesium glycinate would be contraindicated, while magnesium taurate would be very helpful." http://www.coldcure.com/html/dep.html#taurine

I did have a migraine with vomiting and diarrhea the other day, so its possible I could have some residual diarrhea from that.

So one question I have is is it possible the Mg Taurate is giving me diarrhea, and if so should I try another kind of Mg? Or would breaking the dose up to 3 times a day help?

Also, I'm still trying to figure out how much Mg I should take in a day. I'm taking it for migraines and mood. I've read anywhere from 600mg to 1200mg. I'm really concerned about these amounts giving me diarrhea.
