In reply to Phenylalanine causes memory loss?!?!?!!!!!, posted by Wolf Dreamer on May 28, 2004, at 12:27:07
As with most protiens there is 2 forms of phenylalanine one is sweet (the D form) the other is not (the L form). Their actions are different in the body. taken together they can have amazing pain relief properties that can last for up to a month or so i've read, but care must be taken as it does hve side effects like increased blood pressure.
Not only do they taste different but have differing function in the body. The L form is naturally occuring form but the D form is synthesized & that is what is used in Nutrasweet.
The L form is used to make phenylethylamine (PEA) & Noradrenalan, PEA in turn enhances Catacholamine activity (Dopamine & Noradrenalin), both of which can boost mood & energy. It also improves sex as well through this route. The D form blocks the enzyme that breaks down endorphans (the bodies defence against long term pain. its about 400 times stronger than morphine without the side effects). The other effects are unknown to me, as such there may be a slight memory loss with the D form just as there is a blood pressure issue with the L form.
