Taurine has helped, but still have sensitivities

Posted by john1022 on January 25, 2004, at 9:34:12

My story: have been able to take antidepressants in the past and Effexor worked very well with virtually not one side effect

I am now having multiple sensitivies to vitimans, fish oil and Effexor. Everything I have taken has made me feel extremely depressed and anxious. When this started my depression and anxiety were only minor. Then with the bad reaction Elavil left me in a pretty bad state for months and left me with extreme depression and anxiety.

I went to a doctor who practices both holistic and normal psychiatric meds. I was diagnosed bipolar NOS and we tried lithium orotate. It helped a little. I then had some tests done and came back very low in zinc and taurine. Began zinc and taurine supplements and within a week or two the combination got me back to my original state of minor depression, anxiety but serious sleep problems.

I am grateful that I found her because honestly if I did not I would still probably be in the deep depression and anxiety that the Elavil left me in. It seems Taurine really did help at least get me back to point A which I am grateful for.

Effexor once worked wonders for me twice in the past, lifting depression and anxiety and fixing my insomnia in a few weeks. But now I seem to have sensitivities to everything and cannot take multivitimans, fish oil, magnesium or Effexor without feeling immediately more depressed.

But I think the Taurine helped A LOT and probably did something to help calm my neuro transmitters. I just really think if I can get this sensitivity to go away, I can take Effexor again and feel 100% back to normal.

Just sharing all of this to say that Taurine helped more than I expected it would and amino acids really do help (5htp was working for me for a while, then I stopped it to try Effexor again) But unfortunately now I am sensitive to 5htp again
