Do you have enough in you to express how you feel as an I-statement? You may be more likely to be heard because his shield may be less likely to go up. (Plus you may be less likely to be blocked.)

There's a big difference between "virtually" and "absolutely" no possibility. I myself find it difficult to feel absolutely sure about the future.

If X said they were afraid of flying, do you think they'd feel supported if Y said they were sorry X didn't understand aerodynamics and tortured themselves? Do you think it would be effective if Y said X could put their mind to rest?
