Dr. Bob,

I don't mean to break in here, but this does illustrate some of the confusion I feel. I was an English major and even have experience as a writer. I have a hard time understanding and grasping the subtleties of words, tenses, structure, rules. I am struggling with mental illness. Aren't most of us? What seems clear to you, often looks like mud to me.

There are days I have problems spelling, thinking, sorting things out, understanding. I do not think I am a dumb person, but I do feel handicapped by medications and slowed thinking, etc. from depression.

I understand the need for rules and appreciate them. But I do live in fear I will somehow "mess up" without meaning to. I really miss my once "sharp" mind.

This was a struggle to write. I hope it somehow conveys to you the difficulty some of us have in understanding and following the rules.
