I remember reading that (in social phobia) there is an elevation of the dopamine transporter in the amygdala. Perhaps stimulants correct this.

Interestingly, while I don't have social phobia per-se, I had lost much interest in social interaction. Basically interacting with others was difficult and boring. Since restarting methylphenidate, I find it much easier to connect with people, and my speech patterns are much more natural.
