I was 23, had a history of drug addiction, and had a nervous breakdown w/ very little money of my own in an urban area. I was also homosexual and "too pretty," in the southeast.I don't know how many shocks or what sort of ECT. They blasted everything--my past, my ability to think and communicate, my sense of Self--into oblivion.
Honestly, this is just how poor people and/or economically un-productive and stigmatized people are treated by psychiatry. I was already on the rubbish heap, so I guess they figured they'd blast me into a semi-vegetative state. Awesome.
I had a head injury going into ECT. A skinny, pretty, gay dude in a bad part of urban southeast doesn't stand much of a chance...I was bashed on the head during what I guess was a botched mugging. Since I had very little money, the local hospital simply stitched me up, injected me with some mystery substance, and sent me on my way. Niiiiice.
I've recovered, by the grace of God, but...I'm not the same. When my people came down to get me, they turned out to be a little more "respectable" than the shrinks had anticipated. They switched out my Haldol for Risperdal. I overheard one doc say they changed my diagnosis from schizophrenia to bipolar I because "schizophrenia is a poor man's diagnosis."
Awesome. They also told my parents that I'd "never be the same again." Well, no wonder, right?
I dunno...Zyprexa, I can relate to you feeling younger than your age. I just turned 30. I don't look 30, for some reason...maybe its a blessing, maybe its improved nutrition, reduced stress, supplements...people say I look about 25. I feel maybe that age, maybe a bit younger. I dunno.
I was ECT'd to the point that, looking back, I had a lot of problems that overlapped with "frontal lobe syndrome." Things have improved mightily, Praise God, but...
...why? You know? Its violence, its sadism, to shock somebody back to the stone age. Back in the day, the shock docs would call it "giving somebody the works." Yeah...that's someone's life, right? Right.
Anyway, Zyprexa...I don't know what to do. You probably should cut back on your alcohol a bit. The orthomolecular people swore by niacinamide for pre- and post-ECT. Of course, they swore/sear by niacinamide for anything and everything, lol.
