Insomnia can be a symptom of hypomania...but I don't think insomnia alone would be an indication of hypomania.
You talk about taking a med to "knock you out" but are there any other things you can to to settle down for the night more gradually? I try to avoid TV/computer/phone for at least an hour before bed. Also no more caffeine after around 3pm.
What are your other symptoms?
