Using prozac to wean off of effexor (or SSRIs)

Posted by TriedEveryMedication on January 24, 2014, at 22:48:45

I've been on effexor XR 300mg for about a year and a half now. I'm getting sudden elevated liver and blood sugar levels in a recent blood test. My doctor wants me to go off the effexor.

He said I can take a single prozac to wean myself off the effexor. Apparently prozac has a long half life and it will be like automatic tapering.

Unfortunately he told me this over a noisy car phone, and I forgot to ask some details.

Has anyone done this? Can I just one morning take the prozac instead of the effexor and that's that? Or do I take the effexor along side the prozac for a while?

Thanks.
