Not sure if you saw it Phillipa, but in the news recently was the girl who contracted Narcolepsy from her flu shot....and then it turns out the same thing happened to at least 100 other people.
Dealing with Lyme disease, I have come to respect and fear the immune system in a profound way. In my experience, it is a heavy player in just about every condition and symptom we experience, and there is a great deal of mystery.....when we mess with it, we are playing with fire...the outcome could be good but could also go terribly wrong.
Millions of flu shots. Scary.
I think the shots are available now with a non-mercury option? Patients should definitely ask before they get their shot and refuse it if it has the mercury based preservative.
Supporters point to the millions of successful flu shots. Or assumed to be successful. I'm sure many of the bizarre unintended consequences go unreported or there is a failure to draw the link between the person's new condition and the shot they got a few weeks ago.
As with everything else, it comes down to a personal decision of whether the potential benefits are worth the risks or not.
Olive Leaf extract or any of about a half dozen other herbal medicines, in my experience and opinion, do a better and far safer job of managing viral bugs than does a flu shot.
