Moclobemide has a favorable side effect profile. It usually will not produce weight gain or sexual side effects. I am not sure about edema. Unfortunately, moclobemide is one of the least effective antidepressants. Of course, you won't know its value until you give it a fair trial. The thing about moclobemide is that one frequently finds himself raising the dosage higher and higher to offset the development of tolerance (tachyphylaxis) to its therapeutic effects. If you do respond to moclobemide, but only transiently, you might be a Nardil responder. I say this because I believe that Nardil is more of a MAO-A inhibitor than is Parnate. Of course, Nardil produces the unwanted side effects that you are trying to avoid. You might then try Parnate first just to see what happens. Actually, you might try Marplan if that drug is available to you. It is like Nardil but with milder side effects.
I tried moclobemide and reacted quite badly to it. I never felt worse than I did on that drug.
