Parnate thread/ dealing with side effects

Posted by metamorphosis on January 5, 2013, at 14:15:02

Okay, input would really help here.
This is day 8 and I am currently on 40mg of Parnate now. 20mg in the morning and the other 20mg early afternoon along with the Lamictal 300mg and klons.4mg.

I am having some side effects that I expected but also one that I did not expect.
Last night I finally got about 6 hrs. sleep but I can tell it is not deep stage 3-4 sleep. I seem to be stuck in the lighter stages of sleep. I have not used any sleeping med. yet. My pdoc wants me to wait until I see him on the 10th. So, we can talk about all of the issues.
The sleep issue I expected as that is a big side effect of MAOI's.
Today, I woke up and took the morning dose, 20mgs. I have been moderately depressed today with anhedonia and dysphoria.
Again, I realize that this is also part of the MAOI rollercoaster ride.
I have also been trying to dose my klonopin at night for sleep.
But I have not been able to do this. After dosing my Parnate inevitably irritation becomes an issue and I take 2 mg of Klonopin. I also understand that the stimulating properties of Parnate is a common side-effect. I I do not know what I would do without having the Klonopin on hand to take the edge off. That would be rough going.
The side effect I did not expect was daily headaches. They are not migraines but just dull frontal region headaches. I have to take ibuprofen to relieve them. I have never had an issue with headaches.
The issue is that it isn't caused by hypertension. this morning I took my b.p. 3 times-128/80, 125/84, 118/99. So I am trying to fiqure this one out.
Is this a pretty common side-effect with normal b.p., that I did not know about?
There are three things that may be causing it. The combination of ongoing poor sleep. To much time spent in front of the computer and my coffee consumption with the Parnate. I want to slowly reduce my coffee consumption to two cups a day. But that is also very difficult with the fatigue of lack of sleep and the somnolence I feel a few hrs after my morning Parnate dose. I love coffee and have been drinking it for yrs. I'm sure part of this has to do with it's ant-depressant qualities.
I am hanging in there. Most of these side effects I can deal with, for now. I really don't want to stop the Parnate prematurely without a fair trail. Then later on down the line, think what if?
I am not even close to that point at this time. But any comments, advice, possible explanations for these non-hypertensive crises would be appreciate.
Sensitivity to the cold is another expected and tolerable side effect.
It is so frustrating when I do not have motivation to even make the necessary phone calls I need to make because I am feeling like crap and I just don't care.
I hope some of the worst side-effects subside. The depression with the anhedonia and dysphoria are very difficult to deal with. As are the daily headaches.
It is becoming a huge issue just to get up the motivation to take a shower and shave every 2-3 days! It really sucks and is disheartening!
