I'd say being all too familiar with autoimmune disorders that is mania does occur it's with the use of the cortisone meds. Actually cortisone killed my Mother as it produced Addison's disease. Seems that most causes are from poisoning or various medications. And having hypothyroidism once the hormone is added the illness remits. So I also feel that if a person is diagnosed with what could be termed a fatal illness the initial response could be either depression or mania. But feel that in a majority of cases once the diagnosis is delt with or treatment success that the mental symptoms remit. Steroids are horrible meds. Phillipa
