According to my doc I probably would have been labelled a combination of depression, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue by most doctors. Actually they all kind of go together without distinct boundary lines. FM is a common misdiagnosis of Lyme disease or one of several Lyme coinfections or complications. It could be intracellula rmycoplasma. These kinds of things are much more common I believe than people know. That's because there are a handful of MDs around the nation that improve or cure FM patients with antibiotics. My Lyme doctor actually had been a pain specialist and stumbled onto becoming a good detective of Lyme or Lyme=like situations because he casually noticed over time that patients who took antibiotics for other non-related issues showed improvement in their overall condition and with long term treatment got nearly completely well. Not with everyone but enough to take notice.
Anyway, we may never know. Whatever the actual cause, FM is I think is basically an inflammation state caused by a confused or disregulated immune system. So what can help a lot is to address those issues. I use several specific herbs with those mechanisms and certain food choices. Some common foods are proinflammatory while others are antiinflammatory or neutral.
While ABX might be a potentially life changing strategy for the better, probably the single thing I've seen that helps the most with a lot of people is LDN.
