Minimum Dose of Lexapro?

Posted by merpmerp on November 16, 2010, at 8:00:53

So I posted a thread in Neurotransmitters about Lexapro, but I have a more basic question I thought I'd ask here!

For whatever reason, it seems that I cannot now tolerate anything above 5 mg Lexapro without symptoms that I might tentatively call akathisia. (I did tolerate 10 mg in the past, but it made me lethargic, fat and anhedonic... no akathisia though.)

I am wondering if I (with my doctor, I talk to my doctor about all this stuff and don't make changes on my own) should reduce the dosage even further, to 2.5 mg. My reason is that even at the 5 mg I feel a little "jacked up" - that's my way to describe the akathisia-like sensation - and I cannot tell if that is my brain actually needing the med, or the Lexapro "messing with me" as my counselor put it.

Is 2.5 mg complete worhtlessness, or is that a theraputic dosage? I believe that that is roughly equal to about 10 mg Celexa.

I have been on Lexapro for a total of 1 year now at different dosages, if that makes a difference, so I have given it a fair trial and I do know how it should feel when it is working.

Diagnosis: recurrent melancholic depression

Meds: Lexapro
