Can someone give me an explanation or examples of mixed mood states? I am not sure whether they are unique mood types (I have seen the terms "agitated depression" and "irritable mania") or periods of rapid switching between depression and mania (I have seen this definition too).
I have the latter but have been calling it ultradian cycling. I also have some unique mood states which I have difficulty describing, as they don't seem to fit into any one category. I want to be able to describe them better to my doctor. I've tried giving specific examples, but these can be difficult for another person to interpret, because it is hard to understand what is normal for a person, and what a particular mood looks like on them.
