However those with mental disease with genetic roots or early childhood trauma are unlikely to eat or exercise their way out of mental illness anymore than you correct a faulty heart valve with exercise.

I wouldn't be too hard on yourself for not being in remission or feeling that side effects are intolerable. There are, after all, two sides to the issue in this post.There really are people who's quality of life is so reduced from side effects that the meds are only technically tolerable, just like someone who hasn't eaten in three days could technically choose to not eat a plate of food sitting in front of them.
Although we have to be careful about choosing meds based on our theories, all the treatments are based on theories that are in the end, disconcertingly similar in many cases.
