Yeah, what makes Vyvanse different is that it has a lower abuse potential than dextroamphetamine. I wonder if it has a lower abuse potential than Adderall XR and long-acting methylphenidate medications? I can't imagine why it's taken off the way it has (if it truly has) because it's must be expensive (especially for people w/o health insurance) and so not fully covered by insurance companies. I worked for a health insurance company that offered limited coverage for Vyvanse. It's covered as a 4th tier drug (the highest copay) if and only if you've tried an immediate-release stimulant and Concerta. Anyway, when Vyvanse was introduced, I thought it would be a great option for patients who are known to abuse and/or misuse stimulant medication.
