Jimmyboy, my situation relates very well to your situation concerning anxiety. Except for the problems you report with benzo's. They've been my main defense for 15 years, but naturally docs are trying to coax me to replace them with a more suitable longterm option, and finally I've agreed.
I've given the SSRI/NRI's I believe a decent chance, the most success achieved with Effexor, but I remained convinced there has to be something better. Can anyone explain why these meds, considered AD's, are approved for anxiety? Currently I'm giving Celexa a try but my mind/body is giving me the stop sign already. I understand you have to give them time to work, but with the feelings you have, all instincts tell me they are not the solution.
I recently tried Remeron, first pill I've ever taken which actually put me to sleep involuntarily, an achievement in itself, but again I felt it wasn't going to be a steady, solid solution. Far too sedating.
Your Serzone recommendation has me intrigued. In looking for a replacement to benzos, I've researched: Buspar, TCA's like imipramine, Nardil, Inderal, even antipsychotics. Seems like a never ending search...
