Phillipa, don't pay attention to everything that this Dr. said. As I recall, he's given you uninformed and not good advice in the past.
Some information on the internet is extremely reliable and worth using. Some isn't. You can often recognize which is which-- and other times, you can ask here, or ask you pdoc. But you need to ask people you can trust, not this emergency room Dr., who seems possibly a little too casual with his advice. He may not be being at all careful in how he says things.
Don't be discouraged by an off=hand comment by him.
