> Yes, you probably are addicted to it. Effexor is an addictive drug. You can play around with subtle symantics, but it is addicive in 99% of the definition. One can be psychologically dependent on it.

Since you want to define it and play with semantics yourself, why don't we do just that:

"The medical community now makes a careful theoretical distinction between physical dependence (characterized by symptoms of withdrawal) and psychological dependence (or simply addiction). Addiction is now narrowly defined as "uncontrolled, compulsive use"; if there is no harm being suffered by, or damage done to, the patient or another party, then clinically it may be considered compulsive, but to the definition of some it is not categorized as "addiction". In practice, the two kinds of addiction are not always easy to distinguish. Addictions often have both physical and psychological components."

"Drug addiction has two components: physical dependency, and psychological dependency. Physical dependency occurs when a drug has been used habitually and the body has become accustomed to its effects. The person must then continue to use the drug in order to feel normal, or its absence will trigger the symptoms of withdrawal. Psychological dependency occurs when a drug has been used habitually and the mind has become emotionally reliant on its effects, either to elicit pleasure or relieve pain, and does not feel capable of functioning without it. Its absence produces intense cravings, which are often brought on or magnified by stress. A dependent person may have either aspects of dependency, but often has both."

Yes, the definition does drift. Most dictionaries used to be very specific to make distinctions between physiological dependence and addiction. For addiction, they required cravings and compulsions. Some don't seem to do that anymore. They mistakenly equate addiction with physiological dependence.

It is rare for people to report psychological dependence with Effexor. Actually, I've never heard of it. I have yet to see it on Psycho-Babble. I've been a fairly active participant here since 2000.
