Matt,
I really don't know what to tell you. It's hard to know what you think of the advice that folks give you when they tell you that you are of age and your mother legally cannot control your healthcare. You haven't responded to any of my posts, so I don't know if you believe me or not.

But I'll say it one more time. EVEN IF YOU ARE ON HER INSURANCE, your mother cannot legally control whether you see the doctor, what treatment the doctor prescribes, and how you follow the doc's orders.

You say she doesn't call the doc when you need to see him. Call and make an appt. yourself. You say she cancels them. Don't tell her about them. Take the bus or a cab. See a new doctor. Inform the doctor's office staff that they are not to take ANY "orders" or messages from your mother regarding your care--that any cancellation or appt., etc. must come from YOU ONLY.

I realize that if this is not how you are used to handling things, that this would be a very difficult change in behavior to make. And I realize it's bound to rock your mother's boat. But are you going to count on her to arrange for your healthcare forever? Learning to navigate your own way through the healthcare system is part of growing up. Setting effective boundaries--what is your business and what is her business, and your healthcare is NOT her business, legally, is another important skill for growing up and being independent.

I believe you've said this is your goal. What can you do to start taking steps to reach it? What do you think of this advice?
