After 8 years of klonopin (for GAD) and having tried all of the common benzo's, I will vote against klonopin here. I have found valium (diazepam) to be most effective for me, as calming and consistant. If your anxiety is 'always-on' (which should be the case for GAD dx) stay away from the short acting benzo's.
Give valium a good try before you turn to klonopin.
