I have taken as high as 1000+. It is weak at the D2 levels so higher doses may be necessary for certain conditions, e.g. schizophrenia. I take it for other reasons.

However, Seroquel is now being looked at closely to assess its potential antidepressant effects. Actually, combining Risperdal with small dosages of Seroquel can have amazing therapeutic effects to clear-up thinking and produce an energizing effect.

Don't get me near Risperdal (Haloperidol in chemical disguise) again... I still have a right index finger that twitches slightly from a low dose. Seroquel is about the only neuroleptic I can handle without major EPS. Abilify was disappointing even, because it caused akathisia, not quite as skin crawling as Geodon but noticeable. Zyprexa caused pseudoparkinsonism, twice, on two trials and I've never quite regained 100% control of my hands -- although the Seroquel could be continuing it on a very minor basis.

At a high dose, you're right, it has more of a binding affinity, but it releases it more quickly unlike Risperdal and traditional neuroleptics. The only reason I am taking it, is for the D2 effect, but it is for a rare visual related somatiform condition.

EPS and quality of life from side effects is something that seemed to be completely ignored (especially for people with nonpsychotic or parapsychotic affective disorders) in the recent article that novel neuroleptics were not particularly better than "old line" ones.
