I stopped depakote without tapering and did fine with it. Because it was the extended release version, 500mg, I really didn't have any way to taper it. I did sort of taper though...I kept spacing the doses farther apart. For example, if I took a dose in the morning one day, then I would take it in the evening the next day, so it was about 32 hours between doses instead of 24. Then after that for a week I took it just every other day for a few days and then stopped cold turkey.
I'm glad to be off of it. Except for the first two days of taking it, it did not work for me and just gave me a bunch of side effects.
