Amphetamines/weight loss

Docs can and sometimes do still RX the amphetamines for weight control...my *guess* would be that they'd do this in cases where there are other reasons why the amphtetamines could help (ex: patient is obese and has severe depression, or shows signs of daytime fatigue, ADHD, etc.). Desoxyn, Dexedrine, and Adderall can all be RX'd for weight control; with Adderall, I think the idea is to give 1 pill, 3X daily, and try to keep it below 30 mgs (maybe 40?). Although diet pills are usually withdrawn, I imagine you could keep someone on low-dose Adderall for a while--that would help prevent weight gain, and it could help them with underlying issues.
