I assure you, it's much better to have hot flashes than to be on a medication for anti-depressants. Effexor is expensive and has very unpleasant side effects for some people. The withdrawal symptoms that you will experience will be worse than what you started with.
It blows my mind that any doctor would give someone an anti-depressant for hot flashes. It sounds like more than a few doctors have done that. If I were you, I would SERIOUSLY consider getting a second opinion.
