You must also take into consideration the many adulterants found in what is sold as "ecstasy"-- mainly methamphetamine.

Also, most peolple that use ecstasy, are polydrug users. These two combining factors make it nearly impossible to accurately determine if MDMA is "neurotoxic" in humans.

I tend to believe, since MDMA is a ring-substituted amphetamine, chronic use/overuse probably causes problems (both neurologic and cardovascular)-- however, there are a few ring-substituted amphetamines (4-methoxyamphetamine, 4-ethoxyamphetamine) that are devoid of neurotoxic effects.
