if paxil is too activating, maybe you should move outside of SSRIs. sometimes, they are just not right for some people. of the newer antidepressants, effexor might help, wellbutrin would be way too activating, and remeron might be good. i have an anxiety disorder, am BP, and have bad insomnia. i was prescribed remeron, which is supposed to help with sleep and anxiety. i take zoloft and prozac, so i'm not taking it for depression. i've only taken one dose of remeron 15mg last night. i haven't been taking it as instructed, but i do feel calmer after one dose. i'm not planning on taking it every day; just when i need more sleep. maybe it's worth a try for you? otherwise, i think many of the tricyclics are more sedating, at least at first. i haven't tried them so i'm not sure, but imipramine comes to mind as a next line choice. i'm sure others have experience with them and can lend some advice.
