Rage can be a symptom of depression or mania/hypomania or mixed states.

However i can help you on one thing. The ultimate criteria, the universal denominator for this disorder is: "an accelerated mind." If you're not "accelerated (even a bit)" when you're supposed to be manic/hypomanic, then forget it, you're most unlikely not bipolar.
