What were the standard anxiety meds in the 1940's?

I thought about that, and they didnt have benzo's.

I think it was just chloral hydrate, and barbiturates.

They definently were used alot during WW2 for anxious house wives hoping there husbands would come back alive.

This is proably forgotten historical knowladge.
