Codeine affects opioid receptors.That's how it's pain relief works. It also is a bit sedating.
Opium is mood-lightning. So you may well be experiencing a lifting of depression/anxiety.
There are several medications that affect these receptors that can be used to treat depression.
Report your findings to your doctor.
