Well...it depends on what you mean by "sedaating". Anti-anxiety drugs (benzos) are clean drugs targeted to kill off anxiety. The 2 most potent of those are xanax and klonopin. Barbiturates are rarely used these days, but my vote for the most sedating one would be Tuinal-seconal and amytal combined. Other than that, you might argue that old-school anti-psychotics are mega sedatives.
