How long for Effexor XR to work?

I am on my 20th day of taking Effexor XR for depression and have not noticed any positive change yet. I was on 37.5mg for a week, then 75 mg for a week, now 112mg this past week and 150mg next week. How long did it take you to see a change? Do I just need to be more patient? (this is my first AD as my depression became very bad recently). I would rather cut it sooner than later if it is ineffective, given all the withdrawal horror stories.

Also, in addition to insomnia that is worse than before Effexor, I have this weird side effect where the backs of my upper arms feel cold and prickly underneath the skin. Even when the outer skin is not cold, they feel cold. Anyone know what I am talking about? Any solutions?
