I do take medication: I'm trying to keep it low because of the side effects, which for me were anhedonia and loss of sexual interest, so I take 5 mg. of Lexapro and 37.5 mg of Wellbutrin- sort of a feeble version of an MAOI, since between them they target serotonin, nor-epinephrine and, to a lesser extent, dopamine. If you are given TMS by one of the *off-label* doctors, you just keep on taking whatever medication you are already taking. Most of the patients who go to Dr. Hutto come from all over the US, have failed a lot of other treatments, and are taking medication. He expects that, and I think he would never ask someone to discontinue what they are taking. If you go to him, he spends an hour or hour and a half taking a very careful history and making his decisions then, It's also possible to e-mail him and ask him that very question in advance.
The things TMS does- decreasing cortisol production and damping down the HPA axis, increasing BDNF and neuronal growth in the hippocampus, increasing the production of the three neurotransmitters, and enhancing blood flow- are just general, and temporary, things which help your brain back towards normal. I don't think the combination of TMS and an MAOI would be too much or toxic in any way.
