I have used both. Only difference is once daily dosing. My pdoc prefers putting me on long acting meds because mood swings are already a problem for me and the peaks and lows of immideate release meds are not helpful.
Now I take Klonopin because it lasts longer than regular Xanax [& I can afford it (no insurance)].
Benifits: once daily dosing. & Its nice to have the medicine constant in your body.
Drawbacks: Cost
