I've just stopped taking remeron because of the weight gain (and it wasn't working psychologically) - I really know what you mean about the ring of fat around your belly.
I did feel hungrier when I was on remeron, but I made sure I ate alot more healthily and upped my exercise considerably, however my weight kept increasing.
As someone else said - if its working for you, that's the main thing, and you will have to weigh up the pros and cons of taking it.
