frustrating twist: Lexapro/ulcers?

Posted by sip on February 3, 2004, at 23:22:32

I suffer from gastritis and was once diagnosed with an ulcer. I get recurring pains once in awhile but generally take my prescribed med for gastritis and then I'm fine. I woke up this morning to the worst stomach pains/gastritis. I took my medicine but it did nothing and I was really in bad shape almost all day. I had to stay in bed. I talked to my doctor who told me to take Prilosec. She thinks it happened because I took Aleve/Naproxen Sodium over the weekend for menstrual cramps (Aleve is an anti-inflammatory that's associated with ulcers/stomach problems). But I was researching online and saw that there's a link being made between SSRIs and higher incidents of ulcers! Anyone else on this board have an ulcer or gastritis and felt the condition worsen on an SSRI? I'm on Lex and it's been going beautifully so I really really hope this isn't going to become an issue for me! That would just be beyond awful. (I've gotten very attached to Lexapro and how much it's made a difference!)
