I don't know.

Doctors that I have seen in the past whom were not at all shy about prescribing MAOIs would not mix them. I can see how adding one drug while already being on the other could be dangerous. Both drugs do things other than simply inhibit the MAO enzymes. When I was more responsive to the MAOIs, I would feel a "kick" within 30 minutes of dosing either Nardil or Parnate. Such an acute effect cannot be explained by MAO inhibition. Something else must be going on. My guess is that there is an increased release of catecholamines (NE and DA). This probably doesn't represent a problem with either drug when given alone because the inhibition of MAO occurs so gradually over time that the system accomodates to the more acute pharmacological effects. I would be interested to know if the same would be true if both drugs were begun simultaneously.

Over the last three years, I have only seen one person post here that they had combined Nardil with Parnate. They disappeared rather quickly afterwards. I would have liked to have asked him more questions. I hope he's still around.
