I'm depressive, scientific, philosophy-trained - I can't believe in God either but... have you read any Spinoza?? He was chucked out of his Jewish community for "atheism" but he wrote some beautiful, clever stuff, like Euclid's Elements in format, where God = the Universe. It's lovely, and while at some points it can't help me, sometimes it's really uplifting.
Everyone else read him too!
